Election with over 6,000 candidates is just a few days away now.
Every
foreign investors and potential investors big or small seem to be just waiting
for this election to be over peacefully and the country to continue in its
progress path. Never mind which party or who leads the country into the next
decade, as long as the political and regulatory environment further stabilizes.
We,
at AAM Group, have no political affiliations. Therefore we are an independent
voice. We, obviously, are not under any payment or sponsorship to write this
blog post. Our only interest is that we see great business opportunities in
Myanmar market, and we sincerely want the market to continue to grow in a
sustainable way for a long time, into the next generation and beyond.
Post-election Myanmar
has two possible scenarios:
Our
preferred scenario is that election is completed peacefully. Everyone,
including the self-importance international observers declare the results as
free and fair (or as free and fair as possible). All winners, political parties
and individuals, are allowed/honor to take over their respective roles,
responsibilities and powers. Move on. Everyone stays focus on making the
country better. Let the foreign direct investment floodgate be opened. Happily
ever after.
The
second potential scenario is that every possible dispute about the results of
the election comes up. Party A accuses Party B of vote buying, bullying and all
other possible reasons they can think of. Party B counter-accuses Party A of
all other reasons that they can imagine with or without supporting evidence. The
confused general public starts the whole cycle of distrust again. Some
religious, ethnical and political power holders take full advantage to show
their powers by taking to the street and rock the boat. Military may have to
step in to stabilize the situation, yet again, whether or not their
intervention is necessary.
We
sincerely hope that our preferred scenario takes place. Along with hundreds and
thousands of potential investors and other stakeholders, we anxiously await for
the peaceful election, successful transition, and the ‘happily ever after’ bit
thereafter.
Stay
tune and watch this space!
